Final Fling to our Super Series

With the close of the Phantom calendar and our racing season drawing to an end over the next few weeks we have a some great events to look forward to.

The return this year of our Super Series has seen a two day event take place in each region to attract as many sailors as possible to participate, with three events out of five to count. An added attraction was also our commitment to provide free training days which preceded  most of the Super Series events.

In complete contrast geographically the final event of the series moves to Plymouth and is being held as part of the Final  Fling Handicap Regatta hosted by the  Royal Western Yacht Club - 12th/13th October ( rather fitting as our Nationals will be in Plymouth in 2025 ! )

The series has really touched all parts of the country and it’s been great to see individuals taking part even just supporting their local region.

The current leader of the series Rob Cook our Chairman who is literally leading from the front and looks like he’s got it all sewn up. But his Northampton training partner Nursey is in hot pursuit. Andy Payton from Combes SC is currently lying 3rd and Titch a comfortable 4th ( but Vicky say’s house renovations may get in the way for the final event) leaving top spots and podium places wide open.

Jim, Tim and Clive all still in the running if they make the final event along with Dean Andy Andrew and Stephen.

It’s going to make a great final event, so if you’ve got gas in the tank why not get yourselves down to Plymouth for a warm welcome from our South Western sailors.

Jon Rickard - SW Regional Rep is planning on holding a training day on the Friday more info from him on that, coming out soon.

Mike Webster - Events Secretary

The penultimate event moved north being held at Bassenthwaite SC in the final weekend of Bass Week in August. A beautiful  spot in the northern Lake District with stunning views of Skiddaw one of the highest peaks in the national park.

A long way north but that didn’t deter ten intrepid travellers and great to support some of the far northern Phantom sailors.

Commencing in April at Stone SC in the East followed by Downs SC in the South East, two popular venues on the Phantom calendar attracting many familiar faces.

The third in the series was our Inland Championship’s hosted by Northampton SC in June. With the expectation of some lovely early summer zephyrs it turned into a breezy affair and thunderstorms !
